Market Intelligence

Insights & Market Views

Perspectives on energy markets, commodity trading and global supply chains from the ISA Trading team.

Bitumen & Fertilizers · April 2026

Bitumen Supply Disruption: How the Middle East Conflict Is Reshaping Global Markets

Bitumen prices have fallen 15% over the past month yet remain 17% higher year-on-year, as the partial closure of the Strait of Hormuz disrupted key export flows from Bandar Abbas and sent freight costs surging. Singapore seaborne bitumen prices hit three-year highs in March as southeast Asian refiners declared force majeure on April cargoes. For traders with flexible supply chains outside the affected corridors, the tightness is creating significant opportunities.

Marine Bunker Fuels · April 2026

Fujairah Drone Strike and Hormuz Tensions: What It Means for Gulf Bunker Fuel Supply

A drone strike on Fujairah's petroleum industrial zone in March temporarily suspended oil loading operations at one of the Gulf's most critical bunkering hubs. Combined with Strait of Hormuz disruptions pushing Brent above $100/bbl, vessel operators are experiencing emergency bunker adjustment surcharges and war risk premiums across the region. Flexible, agile fuel suppliers outside the primary conflict zone are in high demand.

Soft Commodities · April 2026

Food Prices Surge as Near East Conflict Drives Energy and Fertilizer Costs Higher

The FAO Food Price Index rose 2.4% in March 2026 — its second consecutive monthly increase — as higher energy costs linked to the Near East conflict pushed up prices across all commodity groups. Wheat prices surged 4.3% on drought in the US and reduced planting expectations, while sugar jumped 7.2% as Brazil diverted more sugarcane to ethanol production. With 39% of the world's fertilizers transiting the Strait of Hormuz, supply chain disruption is compounding pressure on food prices globally.

Precious Metals · April 2026

Gold at $4,850/oz: War, Inflation and Central Bank Buying Drive Safe-Haven Demand to Record Levels

Gold rose above $4,850 per ounce this week — extending a fourth consecutive weekly gain — as the Iran-Israel conflict, Strait of Hormuz disruptions and sustained central bank accumulation continue to drive safe-haven demand. Having hit an all-time high of $5,595/oz in January 2026, gold has gained over 41% in the past 12 months. GCC physical demand remains exceptionally strong across jewellery, investment and industrial channels, with buyers increasingly treating gold as a strategic hedge against regional instability.
